So we haven’t had many sunny days yet this year, but we have faith that summer will come to Milwaukee soon. With summer comes sunshine, trips to the beach, long runs by the lake, and a host of new risks for your eyes. Here’s a few ways to make sure your eyes are protected so you can enjoy those busy summer months:
Sunglasses, of course!
First thing’s first – make sure you have a pair of sunglasses with complete ultraviolent protection. We recommend wearing your sunglasses year round because any sunlight can potentially damage your eyes. But it doesn’t take an expert to know the sun is extra intense in the summer – so never leave home without your sunglasses!
Lids, Caps, and Hats
Whatever you like to call them, a hat can be your eyes’ best friend. Sunglasses aren’t perfect – they have gaps that allow sunlight to directly hit your eyes. If you are going out for a long walk or lying out in the sun, make sure to add a hat to your outfit when prolonged sun exposure in on the agenda.
Splash Zone
Almost everyone loves hitting up the pool to cool off, but prolonged exposure to chlorine can damage your eyes and cause red, burning eyes. Make sure to wear goggles – and remember to make sure the kids have them too!
Run Away Sunscreen
Sunscreen: good for your skin, not for your eyes. Keep your eyes in mind when applying sunscreen to your face. New sunscreen spray bottles are great but lead to run away sunscreen, which can seriously sting and hurt your eyes. Always spray away from your face and use your hands to apply sunscreen – then you’ll be in good shape.
