How People See Color Differently

Autumn

AutumnAll the beautiful fall colors that are popping up around southeast Wisconsin have us thinking about the colors we see. Have you ever thought about the idea that a color that looks one way to you might look entirely different from the way someone else see it?

Take for example someone who “cannot” see shades of red. The way they do see red is entirely different from the way someone with “normal” vision would see it. However, that being said, even people with “normal” vision see colors in different ways. Do you remember the Blue Dress debate that took the internet by storm earlier in the year? The entire world debating about whether the dress was blue and black or white and gold. This is because people’s brains perceive color in different ways.

Additionally, as people age the cells in their retinas dependable for color vision weaken in sensitivity, causing colors to become more muted and the contrast between them to slowly diminish.

Overall, no matter what colors your retinas are sending to your brain, it’s hard to argue that this time of year is one of the most beautiful in Wisconsin. Get out there and enjoy it while it lasts!
