Back To School Eye Exam



Vision problems come in all shapes and sizes, and can often go undetected. In fact, according to the American Optometric Association 1 in 4 school age children have vision related problems, which can sometimes be misdiagnosed as ADHD or other learning disabilities. Combine that with the fact that during the first 12 years of a child’s life, 80% of the learning done involves visual processing. It’s important to detect these issues as early as possible.

The AOA’s website provides several signs that your child may have an undiagnosed vision problem:

  • Frequent eye rubbing or blinking
  • A short attention span
  • Avoiding reading and other close activities
  • Frequent headaches
  • Covering one eye
  • Tilting the head to one side
  • Holding reading materials close to the face
  • An eye turning in or out
  • Seeing double
  • Losing place when reading
  • Difficulty remembering what he or she read
