Nothing is more important to a surfer than sight. So, it’s no surprise that Paul Frank sunglasses has teamed up with legendary surfboard maker Robert August to create some “extremely” limited-edition surfboards emblazoned with “Julius,” the brand’s recognizable monkey logo.
Together, the two make perfect sense: August has been shaping surfboards using unsurpassed visual design since the 1950s. And Paul Frank has also been creating stylish eyewear, accessories and clothing since the mid-90s. The companies recently teamed up to raise more than $30,000 for charity at the 13th Annual Robert August “Surf & Turf” Charity Challenge in Costa Rica. Proceeds were donated to CEPIA, a Costa Rica-based nonprofit that “improves the quality of life of children from poor backgrounds” in Costa Rica.
Many of the Robert August/Paul Frank boards were auctioned off, however one was was donated to CEPIA to be used for childrens’ “surf education” — a class no child would want to miss.
While Costa Rica offers some of the best surfing in the world, you need not go on an Endless Summer-style search for surf and eyewear. You can hang loose and find some custom fit, right here in Milwaukee. It’s not uncommon for Milwaukee surfers to hit the freshwater break off the Lake Michigan shore and Paul Frank eyewear can be found in our Third Ward gallery.
The limited-edition surfboards will also be part of the 2nd annual Paul Frank mobile tour this summer and you’ll have a chance to win one of the extremely rare boards through Paul Frank’s online community.
