New Dry Eye Treatments at Metro Eye

Over the past 19 years Metro Eye has been expanding our Dry Eye Clinic with state-of-the-art technology and holistic remedies to this condition that affects so many of our patients. We pride ourselves in the success stories and treatments we offer for our patients.

New to Metro Eye’s OSD clinic are two non-invasive treatments – Low level light therapy (LLLT) and Intense Pulsed Light Treatment (IPL).

The IPL treatment is often used in dermatology to alleviate the symptoms of rosacea and improve the color and texture of skin. This treatment is helpful to those patients experiencing ocular rosacea and has been found to help symptoms of Meibomian Gland Dysfunction, a type of Dry Eye. Although it was FDA approved in the 90s, it has only recently gained popularity in dry eye clinics.

This treatment works by generating pulsed light to stimulate the Meibomian glands and loosen the oils that lubricate the eyes, thus alleviating symptoms of dry eye!

LLLT treatments, developed by NASA, work in a similar way- although with slightly different applications. It uses specially designed LED lights that gently warm the eyelids from the inside out, causing the Meibomian glands to unclog and release those vital oils to keep the eyes comfortable. This procedure is often used to treat chalazion and styes.
