Congrats on your new pair of glasses! You now have a updated prescription, a fresh style, and a whole new outlook on life (pun intended). For most people, new glasses are a big investment that needs to last throughout the year. That makes proper glasses care a must. Here’s some tips to keep your new glasses squeaky clean and protected until your next eye exam.

On your face, in the case, and no other place

This cheesy little rhyme hits the nail on the head. Glasses are fragile little beings and can easily be bent, shattered, twisted… you name it. The best and easiest way to protect against big time damage is to keep them in a case… when they aren’t on your face. Because you won’t always remember to pack your case, invest in a few cases to boost your protection power. Having a case at the office, in your car, or in your bag can keep big damage at bay.

Spray smart

Household window cleaners do a great job cleaning without leaving streaks – perfect for glasses, right? Wrong! Many household window cleaners contain harsh chemicals such as ammonia that can eat away at the coating on your lenses. Make sure to only use sprays that are specially formulated for eyeglass lenses.

The right cloth

Similar to having the right cleaning spray – make sure you have the right cloth for the job. Steer clear of paper towels, napkins, tissues, and yes… your shirt. All these materials can scratch your glasses and damage the coating. We recommend stocking up on microfiber cleaning cloths and keep one in each of your glasses cases.

Know when

If you glasses just don’t seem to fit like you used to, it’s because they don’t. Your glasses will come out of adjustment over time – it’s completely normal. Simply stop by your local optical shop and they will be able to adjust them for you. It’ll feel like they are brand new!

You should also know when you need a new prescription. Your vision can change between your annual eye exams. If you are experiencing eye strain, or if you are constantly adjusting your focus – it might be time for some new lenses. Your glasses should make your life easier – don’t let an outdated prescription slow you down.
